This document is a legal contract between hrzn.email (Horizon Mail) and you, defining your legal rights and obligations, as well as those of hrzn.email, the owner of hrzn.email, in relation to the hrzn.email website and the services offered by hrzn.email.
All use of hrzn.email and all associated services is subject to the following terms and conditions. By accessing and browsing hrzn.email and all related services, you agree to these terms and conditions.
We do not own any data, information or material (collectively, "Content") that you submit on the Website in the course of using the Service. You shall have sole responsibility for the accuracy, quality, integrity, legality, reliability, appropriateness, and intellectual property ownership or right to use of all submitted Content. Unless specifically permitted by you, your use of the Website and Services does not grant us the license to use, reproduce, adapt, modify, publish or distribute the Content created by you or stored in your user account for commercial, marketing or any similar purpose.
In addition to other terms as set forth in the Agreement, you are prohibited from using the Website and Services or Content: (a) for any unlawful purpose; (b) to solicit others to perform or participate in any unlawful acts; (c) to violate any international, federal, provincial or state regulations, rules, laws, or local ordinances; (d) to infringe upon or violate our intellectual property rights or the intellectual property rights of others; (e) to harass, abuse, insult, harm, defame, slander, disparage, intimidate, or discriminate based on gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, race, age, national origin, or disability; (f) to submit false or misleading information; (g) to upload or transmit viruses or any other type of malicious code that will or may be used in any way that will affect the functionality or operation of the Website and Services, third party products and services, or the Internet; (h) to spam, phish, harm, pretext, spider, crawl, or scrape; (i) for any obscene or immoral purpose; or (j) to interfere with or circumvent the security features of the Website and Services, third party products and services, or the Internet. We reserve the right to terminate your use of the Website and Services for violating any of the prohibited uses.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will the Operator, its affiliates, directors, officers, employees, agents, suppliers or licensors be liable to any person for any indirect, incidental, special, punitive, cover or consequential damages (including, without limitation, damages for lost profits, revenue, sales, goodwill, use of content, impact on business, business interruption, loss of anticipated savings, loss of business opportunity) however caused, under any theory of liability, including, without limitation, contract, tort, warranty, breach of statutory duty, negligence or otherwise, even if the liable party has been advised as to the possibility of such damages or could have foreseen such damages. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the aggregate liability of the Operator and its affiliates, officers, employees, agents, suppliers and licencors relating to the services will be limited to an amount greater of one dollar or any amounts actually paid in cash by you to the Operator for the prior one month period prior to the first event or occurrence giving rise to such liability. The limitations and exclusions also apply if this remedy does not fully compensate you for any losses or fails of its essential purpose.
You agree to indemnify and hold the Operator and its affiliates, directors, officers, employees, agents, suppliers and licencors harmless from and against any liabilities, losses, damages or costs, including reasonable attorneys' fees, incurred in connection with or arising from any third party allegations, claims, actions, disputes, or demands asserted against any of them as a result of or relating to your Content, your use of the Website and Services or any willful misconduct on your part.
All rights and restrictions contained in this Agreement may be exercised and shall be applicable and binding only to the extent that they do not violate any applicable laws and are intended to be limited to the extent necessary so that they will not render this Agreement illegal, invalid or unenforceable. If any provision or portion of any provision of this Agreement shall be held to be illegal, invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, it is the intention of the parties that the remaining provisions or portions thereof shall constitute their agreement with respect to the subject matter hereof, and all such remaining provisions or portions thereof shall remain in full force and effect.
Horizon does not condone the abuse of its platforms. If you find abusive material being hosted on Horizon, please contact [email protected] immediately with the necessary details.
Horizon Mail reserves the right to terminate, suspend or otherwise restrict your access to this Site, or any associated tool or services, with or without notice at any time for any reason whatsoever. In addition, Horizon Mail reserves the right to modify or discontinue this Site or any portion hereof at any time with or without notice. Horizon Mail shall not be liable to you or any third party for any such termination, suspension, restriction, modification or discontinuance.
We reserve the right to modify this Agreement or its terms relating to the Website and Services at any time, effective upon posting of an updated version of this Agreement on the Website. When we do, we will revise the updated date at the bottom of this page. Continued use of the Website and Services after any such changes shall constitute your consent to such changes.

Horizon Mail strives to give its users a private experience. We believe that privacy is extremely important, especially for email. As privacy activists, we are constantly looking for new ways to innovate and integrate more privacy-respecting features into our product.
We understand that it takes a lot of trust to choose Horizon Mail as your email provider, which is why we try to be as transparent as possible about our practices.
Throughout this policy we reference several pronouns and aliases. The pronouns, “we”, “us” and “our”, represent Horizon Mail (hrzn.email), while, “you”, represents the end-user using Horizon Mail.
The goal of this policy is to help users understand what data Horizon Mail collects, why we collect it and how we handle it. Other services possess their own privacy policies which do not apply to Horizon Mail.
Horizon Mail collects data from its users to operate and improve the service. The following is a list of types of data we collect, as well as the justification.
This is used as a form of authentication when you login and to create your primary personalized email address.
This is stored in an irreversibly encrypted format (SHA-512 CRYPT hashing) to authenticate you when you login. We never store your plain-text password.
This is stored for aggregated anonymous statistics.
During login, we collect all information from registration, as well as the information listed below. This information is deleted when the session is revoked.
We store your IP address in an irreversibly encrypted format (SHA-512 standard hashing) to prevent abuse across our service, while maintaining user privacy.
We collect your emails so you can access them anywhere and anytime.
Every email you send and receive contains headers, which include sender(s), recipient(s), timestamp, subject, among other metadata. This is collected as part of the email protocol.
Emails you send and receive contain content, such as text and attachments. We store the contents of your emails so you can read them anywhere and anytime.
As of December 6, 2021, Horizon Mail stores emails with encryption at rest. Learn more here: https://docs.hrzn.cool/mail/encryption.
We store your customization settings so that the service can adhere to your preferences.
We retain your alias addresses to forward emails to your main inbox and allow you to send from them.
Upon deletion, aliases are completely anonymized and disassociated from your account. We continue storing the alias addresses to prevent impersonation and alias re-use.
Horizon Mail has never, does not and will never sell, rent or sublease user information.
We may share your data to third-parties if you give us your explicit consent to do so.
If prompted by a legal entity with a valid warrant and/or subpoena, Horizon Mail may share personal user information with them. If it is legal to do so, we will put out a public announcement on our website and/or social media platforms.
If you are worried about law enforcement gaining access to your emails, we suggest using another protocol or end-to-end encrypting your messages.
Emails are retained indefinitely until they are deleted. We do not keep logs of deleted content. Once an email is deleted, we cannot recover it.
Personal user information is retained indefinitely until we receive a deletion request. Please send an email to [email protected] if you would like to permanent account deletion.
Horizon Mail stores user data securely on servers that have limited access. We take precautions in attempt to prevent unauthorized access to user information. For example, sensitive information, such as passwords and IP addresses, are hashed and salted before being stored in our database.
If Horizon Mail knows of any breach or compromise of user information, we will notify users by placing a public announcement on our website and social media platforms within 7 days of discovering the incident.
User information is stored on servers located in Germany and is subject to GDPR guidelines.
We regularly back up data to prevent total data loss in the event that a malfunction occurs. These backups are encrypted with XSalsa20 at rest. They are permanently deleted after a maximum of 7 days to protect user privacy.
Horizon Mail may use other third party services to provide the service. A list of the possible parties are below:
When in use, Horizon Mail's websites may be proxied via Cloudflare to protect the service from DDoS attacks or other security threats. Cloudflare's privacy policy can be found here: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.
Horizon Mail does not knowingly collect the personal information of users under the age of 13 years old. If you know of users under the age of 13 using Horizon, please report them to [email protected] immediately. We will then permanently delete their personal information from our systems.
